The Lehner family is heavily involved in the fox hunting and show communities of the Foothills, and The Farm House employees follow suit. Whether you’re shopping in one of our mobile stores, in the Landrum flagship location, or over the phone, you’ll be speaking to someone who has a lot (in many cases, a lifetime!) of experience with riding, training, showing and caring for horses.
Most of our staff actively compete successfully in hunters, jumpers, combined training, dressage or competitive driving. We understand what it takes to impeccably turn out a rider and horse and we ask all the right questions to help you order with confidence. Our staff is always available to help you shop and phone sales are no exception. No automated menus here! Calls placed during normal business hours are answered in person every time.
The Farm House first took shape on the grounds of Flying Dutchman Farm in Tryon, NC. Farm owner Patricia Lehner saw the need for a local resource for quality tack and equipment and opened the doors of her family tack room. Customers simply drove up, took what they needed, and added their items to an “Honor Card”. The family’s own tack and supplies (not to mention Dad’s tools!) were quickly crowded out, and the decision was made to purchase a local feed business and move the rapidly growing store into its retail space. Tucked into the Foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains between Tryon and Landrum, SC, The Farm House no longer sells feed, but offers an extensive inventory of casual and show attire, boots and helmets, new and used saddles, strap goods, gifts, accessories, equipment and supplies in its 6,000 square foot flagship store. It also includes two large mobile units that travel to USHJA/USEF “A” and “AA” shows throughout the southeast and a thriving internet business for online ordering.
We know they make the difference in presentation and performance. Our reputation for friendly, knowledgeable sales has brought us a loyal customer base both locally and nationally, with many of our riders calling from the road to order directly to their show location. Whether you’re the non-horsey parent of a horse-crazy kid or a seasoned professional, we take your needs seriously. We can offer suggestions about the latest apparel trends, tell you which equipment is “standard” for your discipline, and provide trained assistance in measuring for custom items and saddle fit.
More than 30 years after The Farm House opened its doors, the Lehner family still owns the business and manages day-to-day operations. They also spend a lot of time “in the field” listening to what customers want and need. In response, we’re focused on providing excellent quality products at affordable prices, from hand-picked fabrics and liners for show coats to state-of-the art upgrades to tack and equipment. We have what you and your horse need. But if you don’t see what you want listed, be sure to call. We’re known for locating those hard-to-find items and happy to track down the perfectly ordinary as well. Helping you is what we do!
Thank you for shopping with us. If you’re not already a familiar face, we hope to meet you in person some day!
