The curb gag from Trust Equestrian has a sliding rope action on the cheekpieces, which applies pressure to the horse’s curb groove via a leather pad, rather than the strong poll pressure applied with a conventional gag bit. There is still a small amount of poll pressure, as the upper ring acts in a similar way to a hanging cheek snaffle.
The core of the bit is made of reinforced nylon. The leather that is stitched around this core is naturally tanned without chemicals. The saliva production softens the leather bit and makes it more pleasant for the horse. The flexible mechanism in combination with the taste of the leather makes the bit particularly suitable for horses with sensitive mouths. The Gag Curb uses the concept of a Rope gag but instead of applying poll pressure, it is used to apply curb pressure from the second/bottom rein. Although poll pressure is not totally removed as there is a similar action to the Ring or Drop Cheek on the bit/top rein.
Supplied with a curb strap.
Great for horses with a sensitive mouth but when you still need a bit that delivers control.
Mares, in particular, like the taste of the leather and accept the bit well.
Apply olive oil to the leather bit regularly to keep it supple.
Make sure that the stitching points to the outside, i.e. to the opening of the mouth.
*Due to the contagious nature of the equine disease EHV 1 and per the biosecurity measures suggested by the American Association of Equine Practitioners The Farm House will no longer accept returns on bits.
**No warranty or service is valid when delivered outside of European Union.
